1986 BMW 535i Executive – $23,500

BMW’s first 5-series was a very highly acclaimed, modern sedan. With the new E28 series, one of the most significant developments was the optional fitment of the big 3.5-litre engine.  The fuel injected 6-cylinder engine put out 136kW (184 bhp) which gave excellent performance for a mid-size luxury sedan.

Included were air conditioning, alloy wheels, computer, power windows, central locking, etc.  The Executive version was identifiable by leather upholstery, rear headrests, cruise control and benefitted from limited slip differential.

This car was delivered new in Perth and was first registered in June 1987. It has the desirable option of an electric steel sunroof. The car changed hands in October 1990, then sold to the present owner in 1995. It was his late wife’s car and was very cherished.

The stamps in the service booklet show the car was dealer serviced until 1991 after which BMW specialist workshops took over care of the car.

The owner notes that the car has been extremely reliable, always provided good service and has not been involved in any accidents. It is very clearly a car which has been cherished. It presents very nicely inside and out. There’s no damage or undue wear visible.

The car starts immediately and runs well. It drives particularly nicely, exhibiting the strengths that the 535i is renowned for. There’s easy performance, smooth gearchanges and everything works as it should.

The 535i has covered 232,300km. It isn’t perfect, but it is very unlikely you would find a better example.

SOLD: 2007 BMW Z4 3.0si Coupe

BMW’s Z4 series was a quantum leap forward from their previous Z3, becoming a much more serious sports car. It was offered in two body styles – both very dynamic shapes.

The Z4 Coupe arrived in Australia in 2007, featuring the 3-litre six-cylinder motor. At just over $88,000 when new, the local market cars were very well equipped.

Leather trim on electric memory seats, climate control, 10-speaker sound system, 18-inch alloy wheels and even trye pressure sensors were included.

With 195kW (261 horsepower), the Z4 had excellent performance. 0-100km/h takes 5.7 seconds. The optional 6-speed Steptronic transmission with paddle shifters is fitted on this car. It features a dash-mounted “Sport” button to sharpen throttle mapping and gearshift speeds.

This car was delivered new in Perth by Auto Classic BMW. It has had just three owners and has covered a little over 106,000km. This fine example is finished in Titanium Silver which shows-off the shapeliness of the styling very well. Composite BBS Star Spoke wheels add to the style.

In addition to the original complete set of books (including stamped service booklet), there are invoices showing work done on the car. The most recent work aside from servicing, was on the brakes, done last year.

This is certainly a rare car. Just 157 came to Australia. The owner believes there are only seven of these cars in Perth.

A Z4 is huge fun to drive, with a lusty 6-cylinder motor and great handling making is a properly competent sports car. This car is available at an accessible price-point and with good history and real rarity, making a compelling case for itself.

2006 BMW 130i Sport Manual – SOLD

– One owner from new – Perth Delivered – 56,600km

The performance version of the 5-door BMW 1-series, the 130i Sport featured a 3-litre, 6-cylinder motor producing 195kW and a 6-speed manual gearbox. This is a highly regarded model, capable of 0-100km/h in six seconds.

The enthusiast owner of this car ordered it new from Perth dealership Auto Classic. The original invoice is with the car and shows a purchase price of $72,301 with all the assorted taxes included.

His lifestyle has meant his typical mileage in a year has been about 3000km, hence today the car has covered just 56,600km, serviced regularly. The owner describes the car as having been “tremendously reliable”.

Finished in metallic Le Mans Blue with black leather upholstery, the car certainly is an attractive proposition.

Inside, the car is well-equipped: with power sports seats with memories, climate control, voice control technology, even tyre pressure monitors.

The Sport version has uprated brakes and suspension over the standard 1-series models as well as an electronic differential lock.

For a modest outlay, the opportunity to get such a good example of this high performance, compact BMW should not be missed.
