Ford’s original Mustang was an instant hit. And today, the following for the classic model remains very strong with enthusiasts around the globe.
This example, built with the 289 V8 engine, was made in Ford’s San Jose, California factory. It came to Australia in 2009, having been purchased in California. In 2019 the current owner bought the car from the person who imported it.
The was repainted and has stood the test of time very well presenting very well today.
In 2025 the engine was treated to a rebuild and upgrade. It’s now 306 cubic inches (5-litres) and has a mild cam fitted. Full details of this work in the comprehensive description available by email. Today it certainly sounds beefy and has performance to match.
A transmission overhaul was done and front end H02 coil over kit with their phase-6 disc brakes fitted, from RRS at a parts cost of $7000. Lower control arms and ball joints were replaced too. “It handles and brakes much, much better.” says the owner.
To accommodate the brake upgrade, a stylish new set of 17-inch alloy wheels with low profile tyres were fitted to the car.
He also purchased an RRS rack and pinion steering conversion set ($4800 worth) which has not been installed, but goes with the car.
Inside, the car is as tidy as one could wish for – the air conditioning working effectively.
Under the bonnet is impressively presented – and the suspension and underside is equally clean and tidy.
It has only had limited use in the past few years, mainly for weekend cruises and to Classic Cars & Coffee. The odometer shows 158,800 miles.
The owner is retaining his number plates B3ELIEVE, so if the car is sold in Western Australia, standard issue plates will be fitted.
These stylish pillarless coupes with thumping V8 engines and easy performance still hold strong interest among enthusiasts with very good reason.
This example is a very well sorted car, which presents beautifully, is realistically priced and is sure to provide many more miles of enjoyment for its next owner.
