1974 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow – $17,500

The Silver Shadow was the choice of stars in their era – owners included Elton John, Paul McCartney, Frank Sinatra, Michael Caine, Princess Margaret even Russia’s Leonid Brezhnev. Freddy Mercury’s Silver Shadow sold at auction for £286,250 in 2022.

This car was delivered new in London, on November 7 1974. The purchaser was the Barrow Hepburn Group – a British luxury leather goods manufacturer, founded in 1760 and recipient of a Royal Warrant.

The car’s service booklet shows its servicing by Rolls-Royce Motors Limited, Jack Barclay and Henleys until the car had been imported to Western Australia and local servicing began.

In addition to stamped service booklets there is a large number of invoices for work done over the years in the car’s history file – mostly by Rolls-Royce dealers.

The owner kept the Rolls-Royce for 40 years before the present owner bought it in early 2021.

After the present owner purchased the car, and had fitted new rear shock absorbers, electronic distributor and tuned the car.  Later, the hydraulic system was rebuilt – all seals, hoses, callipers, brake pumps and spheres were replaced.

The owner had an enjoyable ownership, using the car on weekends and for occasional country runs. In 2025 five new tyres were. Unfortunately the owner became unwell and use of the car diminished – he is now in an aged care facility and cannot drive any more. Thus, his beloved Rolls Royce must be sold.

The car is sound and drives very well. The engine performs strongly, gearchanges are smooth and the brakes effective.

The paintwork of the car has suffered over the years in some areas. Inside, the car would benefit from being carefully cleaned and detailed. The woodwork is mostly good and the leather has no splits or damage.

The odometer today indicates 167,000 miles.

While the car drives well, due to the fact that it’s not cosmetically pristine, it is being offered at a very attractive price for its next custodian.
