The lower, pillarless coupe bodywork brought glamour to the well-respected W123 series – known for their robust construction and very competent on-road manners.

These were expensive cars when new in Australia, this car retailing at $39,585 plus options – in the case of this car, factory Bundt alloy wheels and metallic paint.

This car was delivered new in New South Wales. Finished in Champagne, with cream coloured upholstery, highlighted by Zebrano woodwork in the dashboard and console, it’s an attractive combination.

The service booklet shows regular servicing with lots of additional notes about what oils were used and at what mileage. It shows the car was in WA by 2015.

There are copies of invoices with the car from this period, showing work done to suspension, steering, electrical items, cooling system, and servicing.

The present owner purchased the car in 2022 and has enjoyed it ever since. Work done in his ownership has included rebuilt front brakes with new discs, pads and hoses, the fuel injection system came in for attention and a new fuel accumulator fitted. Various other minor items attended to. The last service was in June 2026.

The result is a car which starts readily and runs very nicely. The engine and gearchanges are smooth, with good performance. The ride is good – comfortably handling speed bumps – and brakes work effectively.

Inside, outside and underneath, the car presents well, with minor marks but no major issues evident. A high quality Lorinser wood and leather steering wheel has been fitted. The original wheel goes with the car.

This stylish Mercedes-Benz has clearly always been well looked after which is why at 320,000km it remains a good driving, very sound and attractive example. These W123 cars have an enviable reputation for longevity, are easy cars to drive and fit very well in the classic car scene.
