2009 Mercedes-Benz CLS 350 Designo Edition – $13,500

This car is the update version, which had several minor styling changes inside and out, but significantly had an improved harmonic balancer for the V6 engine, solving a problem area the early version had.

Having the Designo Edition option added even more to the already well-equipped CLS. This car boasts a rare colour of paintwork – metallic Periclase Green – with Chablis leather as well as the special Designo trims and finishes inside.

This is a very highly equipped car, details available in the email description.

New, this car sold for $155,000, plus extra for the Designo trim and optional 5-spoke 18-inch wheels. The V6 350 had 200kW of power and 350Nm of torque giving very good performance. The owner has used the car for several country runs and reports it’s a very impressive cruiser on rural roads.

The car was delivered new in Queensland, then by 2017 had moved to Melbourne before the present owner brought the car over to Perth in 2020.

The owner, a long-time Mercedes-Benz enthusiast (he’d been Secretary of the Mercedes-Benz Car club), has had this car for six years and has enjoyed it so much that he’s recently bought a newer AMG version of the CLS.

The owner is pleased to report that the car has been very reliable. There’s good service history in the service booklet and a file of invoices. The car has been regularly serviced throughout, as the documentation shows.

There’s little to criticize – it’s a beautiful example, which presents and drives very nicely.

A full set of books is with the car plus two keys. The odometer reads just under 200,000km.

This is a far above average example of a desirable model. It presents very nicely inside and out and is sure to provide a lot of joy for the next owner – for a very reasonable outlay.

1986 Mercedes-Benz 500SL – $59,900

The R107 series sports was the longest running Mercedes-Benz model ever, gaining a tremendous following. They were a favourite with Hollywood stars and enthusiasts around the world.

Several engines were offered throughout the model’s life span, not all offered in every country. The largest engines being the 5-litre in the 500SL and the 5.6-litre in the 560SL. The 560 was only available in the USA, Japan and Australia. Throughout Europe the 500SL was the top of the range SL. The 500 engine was the most powerful offered in the R107 series.

This fine example was delivered new in Germany for a UK owner, in right hand drive configuration. The car was fitted with the desirable option of the rear seat (with seatbelts). It’s finished in Smoke Silver with Brazil interior. His brother having owned the car for a period, the current owner bought the 500SL in 2001 and cherished it ever since.

The car was thoroughly well looked after with stamped service booklet and many invoices are in the car’s history file. This included having the car repainted in its original colour – at a cost of over £11,000 – and it presents beautifully today as you can see in the accompanying photographs.

The 500SL was imported to Australia in 2022 when its owner emigrated.

Being a late model, with all the update features. The car presents beautifully inside and out. It is very evident that this is a car which has always been cherished. The odometer shows 128,000 miles, verifiable by service records with the car.

The 500SL starts readily and drives very nicely, the powerful V8 renowned for easy performance. This car feels tight and its good maintenance record shows on the road. Any buyer will be impressed.

1979 Mercedes-Benz 280CE – SOLD

The 280CE was the top of the line of a very successful model range for Mercedes-Benz.

This is a car of high specifications, boasting steel sliding sunroof, power windows, burl walnut interior woodwork and Bundt alloy wheels.

The car was believed delivered new in Victoria and wears an Australian compliance plate.

The current owner has had the car for four years. The owner has had work done during his ownership, which has included – in addition to servicing – automatic gearbox service, fitment of four new tyres and a new air conditioning compressor. Most recently the car has been serviced and a new battery fitted.

A comprehensive history file shows work carried out over the years, dating back to 2011. The odometer shows 269,000km – that equates to 5,744km per year.

The car presents well with its lovely metallic red paintwork. The brightwork is good and the correct Bundt alloy wheels have been refinished. Under the dash mat are some cracks in the dashboard.

If sold to a Western Australian buyer the numberplates MB W123 will go with the car.

It starts readily and idles smoothly. The 6-cylinder motor provides plenty of torque, making for an easy drive. The car has been a weekend cruising car for its owner.

This 280CE is realistically priced – compare it to others listed at dream prices… A very usable classic, with a lot of style.

1990 Mercedes-Benz 500SL – SOLD

The R129 series of Mercedes-Benz SL brought with it modern technology and items such as a power roof (for the first time) and a pop-up roll-over bar. The top model at launch was the 500SL with its quad-cam, fuel-injected, 5-litre V8 engine.

This car was delivered new by Diesel Motors at a cost of over $256,000 – a staggering amount at that time.

In 2013 it was purchased by an enthusiast who kept it until he passed away in 2025. Ownership of the car passed to his cousin, also a car enthusiast, however he has too many cars and has decided to move the 500SL on.

A brand new soft top with roof lining is included, not yet installed.

A few items need attention. One of the roof’s hydraulic rams leaks. The ram was checked, refilled and the roof operated as it should, however fluid has since leaked out again. The driver’s door pocket lid has come adrift and the front bumper has been scraped on one corner. The height adjustment for the front suspension is not working.

The car has recorded 158,000km. It drives very nicely, with good power from the engine and nice smooth gearchanges.

The hardtop is with the car, as is the correct Becker Mexico sound system.

The bodywork is straight and dent-free.

The owner understands that the car requires some attention and thus has priced it taking the items requiring attention into account.

This gives a buyer the opportunity to get a desirable Australian-delivered 500SL, which drives very nicely, at a very accessible price point.

1983 Mercedes-Benz 380SL – SOLD

The R107 series of Mercedes Sports was the company’s longest ever running series. The 380SL had standard fitment of both hardtop and soft top, leather upholstery, polished woodwork inside, a new design of alloy wheels and more – the new 3.8-litre aluminium V8 engine produced 145kW (195hp) – which was similar to the old larger-engined 450SL.

This car was sold new by WA dealer Melville Star. The service book is stamped showing all the early servicing. In 1998 the car was sold by to an owner who kept the car until 2003 when purchased by the current owner. The car’s history file has all invoices for servicing and maintenance done through to today.

The owner advises that after 23 years of enjoying the car, as much as she’s always cherished the 380SL, it must go.

The soft top shows some splits in the side sections, but operates well. The windows are clear and the stowage cavity and frame are clean and tidy.

The car drives nicely, with smooth gearchanges and the nice torquey V8 providing good performance.

The bodywork is straight and tidy with no scratches. Inside, the car presents very nicely. As a late model, it has the full wood trim, not just the console. The lower section around the gear selector the woodwork would benefit from being re-polished. There are a few small splits in the dash top. The carpets are in good condition and the air conditioning works effectively.

The car has its original tool roll, books and a history file. The odometer shows just over 188,000km.

Built to Mercedes-Benz’s high quality, well equipped and very attractive, the formula was just right. This car is very realistically priced, and with good history, is sure to provide its next owner with much pleasure.

1968 Mercedes-Benz 280SL – SOLD

Acknowledged as one of the great designs of its era, the Pagoda SL has a rare combination of style and substance.

This car has the rare, optional single, sideways facing seat, which allowed for the soft top and hardtop. This car is also fitted with automatic transmission and power steering.

It has been with the present owner for 38 years – a remarkable period. He purchased the car while he was living in England for a period, then shipped it out when he moved back to Australia.

The owner is especially proud of the car’s reliability over such a long period. Prior to his ownership, in the 1980s the previous owner had the engine replaced with a new unit from Mercedes-Benz. The car was repainted in the same colour some twenty years ago. More recent work has included rust repairs to inner and outer sills and floor sections with over $20,000 was spent on this thorough work.

The car has been regularly serviced and well maintained. A new set of tyres has just been fitted.

This car stands out in its bright Signal Red paintwork. The colour absolutely pops in the sunlight. There are a few small items, generally cosmetic, which could be attended to. Generally though, as you can see in the photos, it’s a good looking car. Inside, black leather upholstery has been protected for many years by lambswool seat covers.

In the correct triple layer Mercedes-Benz hood cloth material the soft top operates with ease.

The car starts easily and the engine runs smoothly. Under acceleration there’s that typical 280SL exhaust note. The automatic transmission changes gear smoothly.

These are wonderful cars, always in demand, for good reason. This example is not a restored trailer queen, and is priced realistically. It is a decent, good specification, factory RHD Pagoda SL of the desirable final model. It has a good service history and comes from very long term, enthusiastic ownership.

1997 Mercedes-Benz SLK230 Kompressor – SOLD

The SLK – a compact, luxurious sports model with folding hardtop roof and a perky supercharged engine was a formula for success.

Standard equipment in Australia included leather upholstery, power windows, power steering, dual-zone climate control and alloy wheels. Safety features include front and side driver and passenger airbags, anti-lock brakes and electronic stability control.

In October 1997 this car was delivered new in Sydney and features the ‘sport package’ upgrades. This includes an optional design of alloy wheels, slightly lowered suspension, dual exhaust outlets, sideskirts and the lower section of the bumpers and grille colour-coded.

Ten years ago the owner purchased the SLK as an ‘extra’ car for weekend open-top motoring, to go with his vintage MG. The SLK saw little use in his decade of ownership and today the odometer reading is 128,000km. I sold the car recently and the new owner has since found a unique SLK with just a few hundred km on it from new. Hence this car’s back on the market.

The car starts instantly, runs smoothly and is completely easy to drive. The owner assures that everything works as it should.

These SLKs enjoy Mercedes-Benz quality and luxury and this two-seater sports model ads a lot of fun to the equation. This is a good, straight, well-presented example in above average condition. Unbeatable value…

1970 Mercedes-Benz 250CE

The first of the ‘Compact’ series was a tremendous success for Mercedes-Benz and after a couple of years the company offered a 2-door coupe version. Not just less and longer doors, the coupe featured a lower roofline, more angled front and rear windscreens and pillarless construction, giving the cars a very cool look for the period.

This car was delivered new in Perth on January 13 1970 by Diesel Motors. An expensive car at the time, the 250CE was priced at $9717, when a new Holden cost just one third of that amount.

The service book is stamped by Diesel Motors right through to 1984, from when another Mercedes-Benz dealership took over servicing duties. After filling the first book, a second one was issued which shows stamps up to 2011. A full set of books remains with the car.

Fitted with a set of genuine Mercedes-Benz Bundt alloy wheels, set-off with white sidewall tyres, the car presents very smartly.

Inside, the car has black MB-Tex upholstery with folding centre armrests front and rear, in excellent condition. Woodgrain on the dashboard adds some colour.

In the best, staid Mercedes-Benz manner, this 250CE drives nicely. It’s not a high performance car, but sits solidly on the road with good brakes and that great old Mercedes-Benz engineering which has ensured this car’s longevity. It’s definitely an attractive car which exudes a lot of old school cool…

If sold to a Western Australian buyer, the car will be registered by the seller upon sale.
