SOLD – 1971 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray 454

The Corvette was well into its stride when the C3 series began, incorporating voluptuous styling with powerful motors. 1968 was the first of the C3 models and by the time this car was built in 1971, Chevrolet had refined the model significantly.

This fine example has the very appealing Big Block engine – a 454, which produces over 350 horsepower. The majority of C3 Corvettes in WA have the smaller 350 V8 motor.

This car also has the desirable option of the T-top roof, with a pair of easily removed panels which slip into covers and fit behind the seats. Automatic transmission, power steering and leather upholstery making it an excellent specification.

Little early history is known, however since its arrival in Australia, excellent records show a lot that’s happened with the car. The import approval papers were issued in May 2004.

At some point, unknown when, the engine was changed to a period-appropriate unit, still a correct 454.

Around 2017 the Corvette moved to Western Australia. That owner secured numberplates 71USA, which remain on the car today. The car was sold to the current owner six years ago and he’s gained a lot of pleasure from it.

A stainless steel exhaust system was installed (“with proper headers and H-pipe”). The brakes, power steering, radiator, suspension and other items have been renewed, plus a new set of tyres. As well as regular maintenance and servicing… The mileage shown of 83,000 miles appears to be correct.

The Corvette has twice been invited to be exhibited at the prestigious Celebration of the Motorcar event. The car has also been shown, by invitation in the grand display at the Festival of Speed.

Primarily it’s been a weekend cruising car, along the beachfront or to the hills. The owner notes that the car always gets a lot of positive attention, which was evident on the run to and from the photo session.

The car starts well from cold, cruises very nicely and when called upon, offers plenty of drama – acceleration and noise to match… The owner notes that the car never runs hot and always has excellent oil pressure. On the road, the car feels tight and handles very well. Gearshifts are good and the brakes very efficient.

Condition can be described as excellent. It’s not a show car or trailer queen… There are small cosmetic items, none of which stand out.

This is a striking looking, high performing modern classic, an iconic model which the public relate to in a very positive manner. For a 54 year old car, it still offers tremendous pleasure. Parts availability and cost is impressive and there’s excellent club support.

An owner’s manual goes with the car as well as the history file. The car is registered to September 2025.
