1994 Bentley Continental R – Reduced: $99,000

  • Rare, top of the range model
  • Low mileage
  • Good service history
  • Beautiful example

Bentley’s top of the range model in the 1990s was the Continental R – an exclusive grand touring coupe, hand-built by Mulliner Park Ward and featuring the turbocharged V8 engine. At the time, these were the most expensive car in the world. They were the fastest and most powerful Bentley model.

This fine example was delivered new by renowned dealership Jack Barclay in London and registered B7LTR. It is the updated model with twin airbags and the desirable “Cosworth” engine. It was finished in a non-standard colour of Georgian Silver with special order trim to customer specification and bespoke special order customisation.

The Bentley was completed on May 27 1994. A comprehensive compendium contains details of the car’s service history and confirms the low mileage.

The car was then bought by a West Australian enthusiast in March 2021, import approval granted and the car shipped. The Bentley went through the comprehensive engineering approval process with a Bentley specialist and was duly registered.

It drives beautifully, with ample performance and comfort – and is certainly a smart looking car. Everything operates well. The climate control air conditioning is cold, the leather and woodwork are excellent and the car presents very nicely throughout.

Just 544 of these exclusive Bentleys were built in right-hand-drive and only a small number exist in Australia – just two in WA at present.

Opportunities to buy a Continental R come up rarely in Australia, and this outstanding, low-mileage example would grace any garage with great style.

FOR SALE: 1951 MG TD 1250 – $57,000 Reduced: $49,500

The TD was the first post-war MG sports car which saw modernization of its pre-war design. As well as technical improvements, the TD boasted a more spacious cockpit than previous models.

With its overhead valve motor with twin carburettors, the MG TD 1250 was considered a spritely sports car in its day.

The earliest history of this car is not known, however the car had been with one Perth owner for more than 40 years – and the car was comprehensively restored not long before its long-term passed away. Following this, unfortunately, his wife threw away all the invoices of the restoration(!). But it is evident on inspection that every element of the car was restored, and to a high quality.

It spent the following decade in a collection, seldom being used and recently changed hands again.

It’s been through a comprehensive recommission by a Rolls-Royce-Bentley specialist company, with all necessary work done after its slumber. It has just passed a registration inspection, so a buyer can be confident it’s all good to go. It is presently on club license.

The pictures don’t show well enough how immaculate this car is throughout. The brightwork, trim, wet weather gear, internal and external hardware are all excellent and present impressively. It’s like a new car underneath.

1966 Alfa Romeo 1600 Giulia Sprint GT Veloce ‘Stepnose’ – $79,000

The beautiful Alfa Romeo 105 coupe was immediately the darling of the cool car buyers when launched in the mid-1960s.

With specification including a lively twin-camshaft engine, 5-speed gearbox and disc brakes with gorgeous styling by Georgetto Giugaro at Bertone, the car was hard to resist. Today these cars are highly collectable and sought after by aficionados around the world.

This car was delivered new, by Paramotors in Perth and the first owner was a Mr Williams of Mt Lawley. The car always remained in Perth and by the 1990s was quite run down. The present owner bought the Alfa in 1996. He undertook a thorough restoration of the car, in which every element of the car was given attention – the result being a multi-award winner.

After a couple of years, the owner found he was using the car too infrequently and sold it. The new oner fitted a 2-litre motor. Unfortunately the car was damaged in Perth’s huge hailstorm of 2010 and repairs were begun, but not completed. The owner who’d previously restored the car bought it back and undertook a second restoration.

This took place from 2016 to 2020. The repaired bodywork was repainted, a new interior (from Alfaholics) was sourced, the gearbox rebuilt and a correct year 1600cc engine bought, completely rebuilt and fitted. Many parts specific to this model were sourced from overseas.

It is very evident from a close look that the car has been conscientiously restored and to a high standard. It has been to some club displays and on a few club runs when it’s performed faultlessly.

However the owner has found again that he’s making too little use of the car – he has several others… So it’s time to let it go to another enthusiast who will get more use and enjoyment out of the car.

With today’s restoration costs so high and lengthy waiting lists, this Alfa offers a ready-to-enjoy stylish classic which is a joy to drive and an absolute beauty to admire.

The plates UGT 105 will be retained by the owner.

1934 Singer Le Mans – SOLD

This classic pre-war British sports car comes from great provenance with Singer having had racing success. Featuring advanced overhead camshaft motor, hydraulic brakes and friction dampers and remote gear selection in a low-slung chassis with light weight bodywork.

These cars excelled in motorsport and in fact was the only model of car ever to win a gold medal in the Olympic Games, in 1936. A Singer Le Mans also won the Australian Grand Prix in 1934, held at Phillip Island.

This car was in Sydney until the late 1990s then sold to a Melbourne Singer expert who, from 2000 to 2009 meticulously restored it, scouring the world to ensure he could find the best available parts where necessary. Everything was restored with great attention to authenticity and to detail. Some $80,000, plus the owner’s time was expended on the restoration. It won several awards and was invited to be displayed at Motorclassica and in the RACV foyer.

A Western Australian bought the car in 2015 and it was used in a few shows and runs – with some minor work and upgrades done. The car changed hands in 2023 and the current owner has displayed and used the car on runs. It’s featured in some event publicity posters.

The car presents beautifully in all regards – even underneath – a testament to the high quality of its restoration. There’s a tonneau and soft top. It’s a usable and great fun prewar sports car ready to provide many more miles of joy.

Number plates 34 LEMANS will go with the car to a WA buyer, as well as lots of documentation and a small quantity of parts.

1987 Mercedes-Benz 420SEL – SOLD

The Mercedes W126 S-Class was a high point of quality – which came at a price. This 420SEL, was delivered new in Perth and cost the buyer $162,600. Equipped with a 4.2-litte V8 engine, leather upholstery, steel sunroof, power seats and much more, it was a well-equipped car.

A previous owner fitted a set of 17-inch AMG Monoblock style alloy wheels. It wears Michelin Pilot Sport tyres.

The present owner bought the car in 2019 and has had work done to it by a specialist company and has also fitted a very much upgraded sound system at a cost of $4500.

Inside and out the car presents very well, and has covered a mileage of 176,000km – quite low for this model. It drives very smoothly and has a sports exhaust accentuating the V8, but without being obnoxiously loud. The owner advises that everything works.

It is very realistically priced – and includes desirable plates XMB 420 for a WA buyer.

Australian-delivered, 5-speed manual, sunroof, power steering, climate control, power seat adjustment, etc. Strong 3-litre engine. The subject of over $17,000 of work this year on a ‘fix anything you find’ instruction to a Porsche specialist to prepare the car for sale.

Two owners from new, current owner for the last 12 years. 226,000km. From driving the car, it is very evident that it drives beautifully. The engine is smooth and power delivery strong. It starts immediately. The sports exhaust gives a raspy noise, but not overtly loud. This model is famous for its legendary handling and roadholding.

With all the work that this car has benefitted from recently and from long term ownership, it is set to provide reliable service – and enjoyable driving – for many years to come. A lot of car for less than new Corolla money…

1935 Rolls-Royce 20/25 Touring Limousine – $56,900

Ordered at the end of 1934, this Rolls-Royce was delivered to coachbuilder Barker in London to receive Touring Limousine bodywork, with some special order instructions and delivered to its first owners in Scotland, in 1935.

They retained the elegant car for 22 years, and the following Scottish owner also kept it 22 years before it was shipped to Canada. Following many years of ownership there the car moved to New Zealand before finally coming to Western Australia. The current, 6th owner bought it locally and has enjoyed the car for the past eight years.

It has been notably reliable and in frequent use (which is beneficial to any older Rolls-Royce). This has included in displays and country runs, including to Lake Perkolilli, just beyond Kalgoorlie where it has participated in the event there – twice. The car runs smoothly and provides a comfortable and effortless drive as intended by its designers.

Remarkably, this car has never been restored. The paintwork is original and well worn, the ‘patina’ giving the car great character. With aluminium bodywork there’s no rust. The front seat has been reupholstered and the extensive polished woodwork refinished, but the remainder of the interior remains original. Occasional seats are fitted to the rear compartment and stow below the glass division.

The car has its original wheel covers, but the owner prefers the look of the wire wheels. The number plates 1935 RR will go with the car to a WA buyer.

This Rolls-Royce has clearly always been well maintained and thus has proven absolutely reliable for the owner.

1963 Morris Mini Cooper Rally Replica – SOLD

It’s not often that a properly well-prepared Mini Cooper rally replica comes onto the market.

This excellent example has been painstakingly built to replicate the high point in the Mini’s rallying career. Starting with a 1963 car (to ensure its event eligibility which more modern cars miss out on), every element of the car was subject to work and upgrades over a period of about ten years. It is evident that a lot of new parts have been fitted during the car’s build. All the work done to a very high standard, with no corners cut.

Unfortunately he became ill and subsequently passed away. The Mini was never used in a competition event following its completion. The car has been unused for three years but has recently been comprehensively recommissioned. The widow of the owner, keen to ensure the car is right for the next owner, had a marque expert carry out work this year.

The number plates GRX310D are the same combination on one of the works cars – go with the car if sold to a WA buyer.

It starts well – producing the typical hot Mini Cooper induction and exhaust noise – and drives with the verve and huge fun factor these cars are renowned for. It’s a rorty, sporty little car…

The cost to build such a car today would far exceed the asking price, which is to the benefit of the next owner. Here’s a car ready to use on the road or in club level historic motorsport events, oozing character and charm – and very accessibly priced.

1949 Triumph 2000 Roadster – $43,500 ono

Postwar, Triumph offered a broad range of high quality cars, the most daring design of which was their Roadster. Initially with an 1800cc engine, then later updated to a 2088cc version of the overhead valve motor, such as in this car. This TRA was the first of the long running Triumph TR series of sports models.

The Roadster featured foldable rear dickey seats, the rear section having its own flip up windscreen.

This car has been in Western Australia for many years, mostly in rural areas until purchased eight years ago to join a large collection. It was registered and in good condition, but the owner decided to undertake a full restoration. All mechanicals were rebuilt, the car stripped and repainted, new electrics, upholstery, carpets and more were attended to.

The owner passed away before the car was finished and it has recently been completed. Much expense and effort has gone into the car’s restoration.

1971 Jaguar E-type V12 FHC – $94,500 ono

Imported over a decade ago from a ‘dry state’ in the USA, this Series 3 coupe has desirable specification including automatic transmission, power steering, air conditioning and chrome wire wheels.

The car is largely original and was repainted a few years ago and the metallic black bodywork presents beautifully. Inside, the leather is in a tan colour which suits the car well.

Unfortunately, the owner passed away three years ago and the family has now decided to sell the car, which was a part of a large collection.

The Jaguar has been checked over, serviced and runs beautifully.

The sellers are realistic and the car has been priced accordingly. An inspection of the car will impress.

Number plates 777 JET  will go with the car to a WA buyer.
