1966 Alfa Romeo 1600 Giulia Sprint GT Veloce ‘Stepnose’ – $79,000

The beautiful Alfa Romeo 105 coupe was immediately the darling of the cool car buyers when launched in the mid-1960s.

With specification including a lively twin-camshaft engine, 5-speed gearbox and disc brakes with gorgeous styling by Georgetto Giugaro at Bertone, the car was hard to resist. Today these cars are highly collectable and sought after by aficionados around the world.

This car was delivered new, by Paramotors in Perth and the first owner was a Mr Williams of Mt Lawley. The car always remained in Perth and by the 1990s was quite run down. The present owner bought the Alfa in 1996. He undertook a thorough restoration of the car, in which every element of the car was given attention – the result being a multi-award winner.

After a couple of years, the owner found he was using the car too infrequently and sold it. The new oner fitted a 2-litre motor. Unfortunately the car was damaged in Perth’s huge hailstorm of 2010 and repairs were begun, but not completed. The owner who’d previously restored the car bought it back and undertook a second restoration.

This took place from 2016 to 2020. The repaired bodywork was repainted, a new interior (from Alfaholics) was sourced, the gearbox rebuilt and a correct year 1600cc engine bought, completely rebuilt and fitted. Many parts specific to this model were sourced from overseas.

It is very evident from a close look that the car has been conscientiously restored and to a high standard. It has been to some club displays and on a few club runs when it’s performed faultlessly.

However the owner has found again that he’s making too little use of the car – he has several others… So it’s time to let it go to another enthusiast who will get more use and enjoyment out of the car.

With today’s restoration costs so high and lengthy waiting lists, this Alfa offers a ready-to-enjoy stylish classic which is a joy to drive and an absolute beauty to admire.

The plates UGT 105 will be retained by the owner.
