1949 Jaguar XK120 Alloy Roadster – 660004

A very important Jaguar:

  • The 4th XK built – 660004
  • Perth delivered
  • Set WA speed record
  • First competition drive for an XK in the Southern Hemisphere
  • Star of Perth Motor Show
  • One owner since 1961
  • The most significant XK to come to the Australian market for years

The Jaguar XK series is renowned for bringing modernity to sports cars after World War 2. With a twin-cam 6-cylinder engine and sleek, stylish bodywork the XK120 broke new ground. The first 200 cars built were made with aluminium bodywork. These alloy cars are highly sought after today. Just 57 alloy body cars were built right hand drive.

This car was completed on 12 October 1949 and sold by M.S. Brooking, Perth.

Originally finished in a cream colour, shortly after taking delivery, the owner had the car repainted Luxor Blue, the corporate colour of the family business.

The XK120 competed at the Mundaring Hillclimb on 25 February 1950 – thus it became the first competition appearance of an XK in the Southern Hemisphere. In 1951 the Jaguar officially became the fastest car in WA, setting a new State record of 117.65 mph.

The car was shown at the Perth Motor Show in 1950 where unsurprisingly, it was the star attraction.

The Jaguar was bought by the present owner in February 1961. He was 21 years old at the time and has kept the car for the following 63 years.

Some changes have been made – motor (now a 4.2), gearbox, dashboard, windscreen, but all the original components have been kept.

The XK has appeared in newspaper and magazine features as well as books – and has been a popular exhibit at many events including the by-invitation Celebration of the Motorcar show.

Number stampings throughout the car prove its identity – chassis, engine, gearbox and body. Plus the car’s well-known and continuous provenance cannot be questioned. There is a great deal of historical documentation available for this car. Registered XKS 120P.

Opportunities to purchase such a historically significant car are few – don’t miss this opportunity.
