Combining sportiness, luxury and practicality, the Farina-designed Magnette offered a new level of stylishness to MG’s saloon. With twin carburettors and two-tone paintwork, the Magnette cut quite a dash.
This model wasn’t sold in Australia, however this car was bought new duty free in the UK from Nuffield Exports and sent straight to Melbourne. The car’s history file retains all the 64-year old documentation for its export and import.
Ordered in a very attractive period colour scheme, with the last owner (who had the car for 15 years), the MG was treated to new paintwork and upholstery, still in its original colours.
The car starts and runs well, is rust-free and presents very nicely except for pitting in some of the chrome trim. Inside is lovely in a riot of red and black, with wood dashboard and door cappings.
The MG is eligible for club license. It’s a rare car – it’s believed there’s only one other in Western Australia. Spares, books and a history file go with the car. The car has just been inspected and registered 1IHK837, and is on club license.
