This rare TVR coupe features an upgraded Ford V6 motor, providing excellent performance in the lightweight fibreglass 2-seater body.
The Taimar was a hatchback version of the successful M-series, building on the many benefits the series offered. This car was in fact the company demonstrator and appeared on the cover of a TVR magazine in 1979. It is believed that only two Taimars were finished in this colour scheme.
395 Taimars were produced between 1976 and 1979.
In 1984 Specialized Engines Ltd installed a high performance 3.1-litre engine with competition heads and cams in the Taimar. The car has been fitted with a set of genuine Wolfrace alloy wheels, in the design which was optional at the time the car was built.
The current owner bought the car two years ago from a British auction house, the owners of which are known to the buyer. He had wanted a TVR since childhood and after searching Australia for a good car without success, bought this car in England. After arrival some minor items were brought up to spec for Australian registration, it passed the comprehensive compliance inspection and was licensed in 2022. The owner applied for and received the same number plates the car had worn in its time as a factory demonstrator.
The attractive light interior colour and Webasto sunroof mean there’s no feeling of claustrophobia inside. The car is fitted with a wood-rim Moto Lita steering wheel.
This Taimar runs very nicely, with grunty power delivery, quick steering and tight handling. It offers huge fun driving characteristics accentuated by a sporty exhaust note.
There is a large quantity of historical documentation with the car. Included is an Owners Handbook, autographed by Martin Lilley (TVR company owner at the time). Also on file are original brochures (some showing TVR 22), a spare parts catalogue, old MOT certificates, invoices for work done. In more recent documentation are the import approval papers and invoices.
A small quantity of parts go with the car. The 81,400 miles shown on the odometer is understood to be accurate.
It is believed there are only three other Taimars in Australia. These cars offer a unique classic style, rarity and performance.
