The Lancer GSR was a game changer when it was launched, bringing turbocharged all-wheel-drive performance to a reasonable price range and Australia was one of the first markets to get the car. Enthusiasts embraced the model which lead the way – assisted by Mitsubishi’s strong rallying success.
The owner of this car bought a Lancer GSR when they were current, in the same metallic Astoria Green colour and had a great ownership experience with it. When the car was a few years old, it was sold and replaced with a newer car. He always had very fond memories of it and many years later, the chance to buy one as a classic came up, so he grabbed it. This car was sold new in Perth by Leederville Mitsubishi to a Wembley Downs owner, and retains the dealership stickers and handbook compendium, complete with service book and handbooks.
The original owner kept the car for a few years then the second owner (having also bought it from Leederville Mitsubishi) had the Lancer for 22 years before the next owner who had the car for less than a year when the current owner purchased it. The long-term owner had the car slightly lowered and fitted a set of aftermarket alloy wheels as well as a sports steering wheel. The original alloy road original wheels and steering wheel have been retained and will be sold with the car. On purchase, the current owner treated the car to a full service including replacement of the timing belt and water pump. He also had a new set of tyres fitted.
He says proudly of the GSR “everything works and it’s been 100 percent reliable”. The car starts perfectly and runs very nicely.
The Lancer presents very nicely inside and out. It’s quite evident that this has been a well-loved car.
Today the car shows just over 121,900km, and it is clear upon inspection that it is in fine fettle throughout and an outstanding example of this iconic model. Many Lancer GSRs were customised over the years and it’s refreshing to see such a tidy and correct example, which is a real rarity – and points to a future as a collectors’ item.
