One owner from new – this car was bought when the owner was 21 years old – he’s now 75 and the time has come to give this beloved Falcon a new home. He and his father bought a pair new GTs together from Ford dealer Lynas Motors in Perth. The car has been cherished ever since.
It was his only car for the first 5 years. The GT remains notably original and correct. In the mid-1970s he had air conditioning fitted (which still works very effectively today) and high-quality fitted sheepskin seat covers, which he advises have never been off. His wife found the car’s acceleration so strong that a (removable) headrest was fitted to the front passenger seat… A Venetian blind on rear window has been there from new.
The owner was a founding member of the Falcon GT Club in WA but has not been active in the classic car scene for a few years now.
Twenty-five years ago the body was stripped and repainted by a reputable painter, now retired, in its original Polar White colour. The owner had the engine rebuilt at the same time as a part of the car’s mid-life makeover. He confirms it remains a matching numbers car.
In addition to the original purchase documentation from Lynas Motors, the family have photos of the GT in the early days.
The car is remarkably original, and has never been restored as such. Interior is good condition, not restored and shows its years of use in some areas. Exterior has rust bubbles showing in bottom corners of doors, LHS sill and RHS lower rear guard. There are a few small paint chips which would be easily rectified.
The 302 V8 rumbles very nicely and provides easy performance, still impressive 54 years after the car was built. There can only be a very few XT GTs still with their original owners – there’s every possibility this is the last one. The car also has the benefit of never having been customized, unlike so many others. It offers a very special opportunity to obtain a car bearing one of the most iconic nameplates in Australian motoring history.
